Six Universities Receive Accreditation for Building Programmes 

The Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) has granted accreditation to the undergraduate building programmes of six universities for the next five years. This decision was announced in a communiqué signed by the Registrar and Secretary to the council, Adetunji Adeniran, in Abuja. 

Universities Accredited 

The universities that received accreditation are: 

  • Imo State University, Owerri 
  • Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State 
  • University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos 
  • Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife 
  • Federal University, Birnin-Kebbi 
  • Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Agbani, Enugu State 

Adeniran expressed satisfaction with the universities’ commitment to providing quality education in buildings. “The council is pleased to accredit these universities, as they have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in building education,” he stated. 

Enhancing Professionalism in Building 

In addition to the accreditation, the council adopted the National Skills Qualification Framework. This framework will be used for the registration of building technologists, technicians, and artisans, ensuring they are appropriately certified. The aim is to enhance the professionalism and skills of building practitioners in Nigeria.

Commendations 

The communiqué also praised the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, for his approval of three important laws that promote the orderly development of the built environment in the state. Additionally, the council commended the Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, for his ongoing efforts to address and prevent building collapses across the country. This series of actions by CORBON is a significant step towards strengthening the standards and practices within Nigeria’s building industry.
