The Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency (OYCSDA) has announced that over 12,000 vulnerable persons across the state will benefit from its ongoing 2024 Psychosocial Support Programme. The project, launched at Alegongo Community Hall, Akobo, Ibadan, in the Lagelu Local Government Area, is designed to provide succor to widows, orphans, and people with special needs.

During the event, the OYCSDA Chairman, Abideen Adeaga, highlighted the importance of the programme as a collaborative effort between the World Bank and the state government under the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES). He emphasized that the initiative builds on the successes of 251 micro-projects across healthcare, education, water sanitation, and erosion control that have benefited over 355,000 residents in 33 local government areas of the state.

A Comprehensive Support System

The psychosocial support programme includes welfare items such as foodstuffs, financial assistance, and counseling sessions aimed at enhancing the beneficiaries’ physical and psychological well-being. According to Adeaga, this initiative will empower the vulnerable to face everyday challenges confidently and contribute to the sustainability of micro-projects in their communities. This support is granted to the most vulnerable in our communities to boost their confidence and energy to participate in the implementation of micro-projects,” Adeaga stated. He also appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering commitment to funding and supporting these efforts, which have positively impacted thousands of lives.

This project enhances lives and creates opportunities for sustainable development, empowering the vulnerable to face life’s challenges with confidence.” — Abideen Adeaga, OYCSDA Chairman

Sustaining Interventions for the Poorest of the Poor

The 2024 Psychosocial Support Programme serves as a beacon of hope for Oyo State’s most vulnerable residents. With food, funds, and counseling services, the initiative is a lifeline that not only meets immediate needs but also empowers individuals to actively participate in their communities. As Adeaga noted, “This project enhances lives and creates opportunities for sustainable development. The ongoing commitment of the OYCSDA and the Makinde administration reflects a strong dedication to uplifting the less privileged, ensuring no one is left behind in the journey toward resilience and economic stability.
