NMDPRA Assures Nigerians of Fuel Availability During Yuletide, Warns Against Panic Buying
As the festive season approaches, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has reassured Nigerians of the steady availability of fuel. The agency has advised against panic buying and urged caution in handling petroleum products to prevent fire hazards.
Fuel Availability Guaranteed
The NMDPRA Coordinator in Delta State, Mr. Victor Ohwodiasa, during a media chat in Warri, emphasized that petroleum depots across the country are well stocked with products. He assured, “There is sufficient product that will last beyond the festive period. There is no cause for panic buying. Ohwodiasa highlighted the Federal Government’s efforts to ensure the availability of products such as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO), and Dual-Purpose Kerosene (DPK). He stressed that Nigerians could rely on the system to meet their fuel needs.
Safety Measures for Fuel Handling
Mr. Ohwodiasa warned against dangerous practices such as storing fuel at home or carrying it in vehicles, particularly during travel. He noted, “Storing petroleum products at home could endanger lives and properties because they are highly flammable. He further advised motorists to avoid stocking fuel in car trunks, as this could lead to fire outbreaks.
Patronize Licensed Outlets
The NMDPRA urged Nigerians to buy fuel only from licensed retail outlets to ensure safety and accountability. “They should patronize only licensed retail outlets because those are the ones we have control over. “If there are issues, we can address them,” Ohwodiasa stated. He also encouraged citizens to report illegal fuel operators or those selling petroleum products from unauthorized locations. “If they notice any illegal operator, they should reach out to us, and we will take immediate action,” he added.
There is no cause for panic buying because all the depots are wet with products ranging from Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO), and Dual-Purpose Kerosene (DPK). Let’s ensure we have a safe and joyous festive season.”

“Let’s ensure we have a safe and joyous festive season,” Mr. Ohwodiasa advised.
