NEMA Distributes 30,000 Bags of Maize and Garri to Akwa Ibom State

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has handed over 24,180 bags of maize and 5,828 bags of garri to the Akwa Ibom State Government. The food items are meant for distribution to vulnerable individuals across the state.
NEMA’s Efforts to Combat Economic Hardship
NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, represented by Mrs. Mmandu Aisueni, announced the handover during a ceremony in Uyo. This initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to alleviating the economic hardship caused by rising food prices. Umar emphasized that the distribution process will be overseen by Committees in each Local Government Area (LGA), ensuring transparency and fairness. Each LGA is to have equal distribution, with a portion set aside for religious organizations and boarding schools.
Allocation Breakdown
Akwa Ibom received 24,180 bags of 50kg maize and 5,828 bags of 25kg garri. According to Umar, these commodities were drawn from the National Strategic Reserve under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMoA&FS). The allocation also includes maize, millet, sorghum, and other grains. The Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Offiong Offor, expressed gratitude on behalf of the state. She thanked President Tinubu for his support and pledged that the food items would reach the intended beneficiaries. Offor acknowledged that this intervention would help ease the impact of rising food prices in the state.
