Minister Promises Stable Power Supply Across Nigeria

Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, has assured Nigerians of stable and sustainable power supply throughout the country. He gave this assurance during his visit to the Calabar Power Plant of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) in Cross River State.
Inspection and Assessment
During his visit, Adelabu emphasized the importance of the power sector to both the government and the national economy. He highlighted that President Bola Tinubu had tasked him with inspecting all power plants to evaluate their performance. Adelabu praised the Calabar Power Plant as the most active and expressed his satisfaction with its operation. Adelabu also mentioned that the Federal Government is focused on reforming the power sector to ensure reliable power supply nationwide. He acknowledged the rising energy demands and assured that the government is committed to meeting these needs. He stressed that the power sector must adapt to these changes, and stakeholders need to be proactive to support these reforms.
Privatization Plans
The Minister addressed the ongoing discussions about privatizing the Calabar Power Plant to the Cross River State government. He noted that this matter is currently with the Federal Privatization Council and the Federal Executive Council. Cross River State Commissioner for Power and Energy, Eka Williams, confirmed that the state government is prepared to manage and operate the plant effectively. He highlighted the state government’s commitment under Governor Senator Bassey Otu to address the needs of its citizens.

Power Generation and Challenges
Chiedu Ugbo, Managing Director of the Calabar Power Plant, reported that the plant is currently supplying power to much of the South-South and South-East regions. However, he noted the need for more sub-transmission power stations to improve power distribution. Ugbo also expressed concerns about vandalism affecting the plant’s operations and called on citizens to stop such acts.
