International Brewery PLC

International Breweries Plc (IBPLC), a member of AB InBev, is empowering 1,000 retailers across Nigeria through its 2024 Retailer Development Programme, also called the Growing Retailers Innovatively Together (GRIT) initiative. This program focuses on fostering entrepreneurship and driving economic growth.

What the GRIT Initiative Offers

The GRIT initiative, introduced by AB InBev and implemented across Africa, provides retailers with tools to enhance their businesses. The program focuses on three core pillars: Inclusion, Education, and Growth. It includes tailored training, coaching, mentorship, and access to critical resources like digital tools and financing to help retailers thrive.

Progress in Key Nigerian Markets

So far, IBPLC has trained about 800 retailers in five major Nigerian cities: Port Harcout,Onitsha, Ilesha, Lagos, and Sagamu. The program aims to reach its target of 1,000 retailers by the end of 2024.

Why Small Businesses Matter

Speaking about the initiative, Carlos Coutino, Managing Director of IBPLC, emphasized the importance of small businesses:

“Thriving small businesses are the backbone of local communities and economies. They generate jobs, provide essential services, and contribute to innovation. With our GRIT programme, we offer skills training, mentorship, and opportunities for growth, helping retailers and their communities succeed.”

Driving Socio-Economic Development

Temitope Oguntokun, Corporate Affairs & Regulatory Director at IBPLC, highlighted the company’s commitment to uplifting small businesses:

“Strengthening retailers supports communities and fosters sustainable growth. GRIT represents our determination to create value and impact together.”

National Sales Director Nicholas Kade added that the program benefits both retailers and the company:

“When our retailers grow, our business grows. This training equips retailers with skills to thrive, contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

Empowering small businesses is not just about growth; it’s about building stronger communities and creating a sustainable future for all.

Retailers Share Their Experience

Participants like Samuel Onyeulor, General Manager of Retta Park Hotel, praised the initiative:

I’ve gained new perspectives, learned valuable business strategies, and connected with others to share best practices. This program has been a game-changer for me.

The GRIT initiative by International Breweries Plc is a powerful step towards empowering Nigerian retailers, enhancing their skills, and driving sustainable growth. With programs like these, small businesses can continue to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s economy.
