The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) Women Commission, Lagos Zone, has reinforced its dedication to education by donating essential learning materials to Mayegun Community Primary School in Eti-Osa, Lagos. This initiative is part of their 2024 Back-to-School Project and reflects their commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Focus on Education for a Brighter Future

The event, held on Monday, underscored the importance of education in shaping Nigeria’s future. Abeng, the Chairman of PENGASSAN Lagos Zone, explained that this project aligns with the directive of Trade Union Congress President Festus Osifo. The children today are the future of our industry. Tomorrow, they will graduate, and many will join companies that offer services in oil and gas. Education is the most sustainable tool for a prosperous future, and initiatives like this inspire children to understand that education pays,” Abeng said. He also highlighted the organization’s commitment to engaging in meaningful CSR activities across its four zones: Port Harcourt, Lagos, Warri, and Kaduna. These efforts focus on giving back to society, with education as a priority.

Five Years of Dedicated Support

Nikki Duru, Deputy National Chairperson of the PENGASSAN Women Commission Lagos Zone, revealed that the Back-to-School Project began five years ago to assist children who lacked necessary school supplies. We identify schools in need, particularly public schools outside the Lagos metropolis. We don’t focus on private schools. We want to make a tangible impact,” Duru explained. This year’s initiative also recognized exemplary students. The best-behaved girl and boy in Primary Six were awarded continued educational support through secondary school, reinforcing the commission’s long-term commitment to their success.

Commendation from Education Authorities

Mrs. Abosede Padonu, representing the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board and Eti-Osa Local Government Education Authority, applauded PENGASSAN’s efforts. Providing school supplies, such as bags and books, boosts children’s self-esteem and makes them feel valued. This initiative makes a real impact, and every organization should give back to society, particularly in support of public-school children,” Padonu said.

Through the annual Back-to-School Project, PENGASSAN continues to uplift public school children in Lagos, fostering hope and laying a strong foundation for their future. By addressing educational needs, the initiative ensures these children are better equipped to achieve their potential.
