NANS Urges FG to Ban Diesel Importation

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Federal Government to ban the importation of diesel. Instead, they want petroleum marketers to buy refined products from the Dangote Refinery to benefit Nigerians. 

Benefits of Dangote Refinery 

Akinteye highlighted that the Dangote Refinery can produce petrol, diesel, and other refined products to meet Nigeria’s needs and serve international markets. He noted that the refinery also produces high-quality fertilizers for farmers, which supports the agricultural sector. We visited Dangote Refinery and were welcomed by the company’s Vice President, Devakumar Edwin. We toured the facility for nearly five hours and saw its advanced capabilities. The refinery uses the latest technology, surpassing many other refineries globally. It has the capacity to meet Nigeria’s needs and produce for international markets, said Akinteye. He emphasized that the refinery’s advanced infrastructure and operational excellence demonstrate Nigeria’s ability to be self-sufficient in energy production. 

Urging Government Action 

Considering these benefits, NANS calls on the Federal Government to take decisive action. They demand an immediate ban on diesel imports, highlighting that the refinery can produce high-quality diesel domestically. This will support local production, save foreign exchange, and boost the economy. NANS also urges the government to direct petroleum marketers to prioritize buying products from the Dangote Refinery. This will ensure that Nigeria’s refined product needs are met locally, fostering economic growth and reducing dependence on imports.
